Boots, the popular beauty retailer, has been forced to place online customers into a virtual queue after its website crashed due to a surge in shoppers attempting to purchase its new No7 Future Renew collection. The collection, which is described as the “biggest cosmetic science innovation” in the brand’s history, was launched today after 15 years of research and tests at the University of Manchester.
The website is currently down, with a message on the homepage informing customers that they have been “temporarily placed in a virtual queue”. This has caused frustration among shoppers, with many taking to social media to express their anger and confusion. One user tweeted: “What is going on with Boots?? Why am I being placed in a virtual queue at 09:24 on a Wednesday morning??”
The new collection contains four skincare products, which are formulated with a “super-peptide blend”. According to No7 head of science research Dr Mike Bell, the blend was identified and screened using “new state-of-the-art methodologies and techniques such as machine learning and advanced robotics”. He added that the peptide blend “will be a game changer, paving the way for highly effective skincare to be accessible to even more of our customers”.
A spokesperson for Boots said: “We are aware of an issue with our website and are working hard to resolve it as quickly as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
