Online fashion retailer Boohoo has appointed former Matalan CEO and New Look chairman, Alistair McGeorge as an independent non-executive director. McGeorge succeeds Brian Small as the group’s deputy chairman and will act as interim chair of the audit committee until the search for an additional non-executive director to fulfil the role is complete. McGeorge is currently the non-executive director of The Original Factory Shop and chairs the board of trustees at the RetailTrust. He joined Matalan as CEO in 2006, a position he held for over three years before moving over to New Look as an executive chairman. Boohoo group executive chairman Mahmud Kamani said: “Alistair has extensive board-level experience with some great retail brands. We look forward to working with him and are confident that he will help us deliver our ambition to be the global fashion leader. Brian departs with my significant thanks for his positive contribution over the last four years on the board, initially as audit chair and then as deputy chair from December 2019.” The online fashion retailer also announced the departure of CFO and executive director Neil Catto after nearly 12 years with the group. Catto joined Boohoo in 2011 as CFO before being appointed executive director in October last year. Prior to Boohoo, he held senior positions at Daps.com, Carphone Warehouse and BT. Kamani said: “Neil has been with the group for 12 years and is held in the highest regard for his substantial contribution. He has been instrumental in building the group from a one-brand-business into a multi-brand platform.
