New Look, the UK-based fashion retailer, has appointed a new Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to lead its digital transformation efforts. The company has hired former Tesco CTO, Guus Dekkers, to take on the role.
Dekkers will be responsible for driving New Look's digital strategy, including the development of its ecommerce platform and the implementation of new technologies to enhance the customer experience. He will also oversee the company's IT operations and infrastructure.
New Look CEO, Nigel Oddy, said: "We are delighted to welcome Guus to New Look. His extensive experience in leading digital transformation programmes will be invaluable as we continue to evolve our business and enhance our customer proposition."
Dekkers has over 20 years of experience in the technology industry, having previously held senior roles at companies such as Vodafone and Nokia. He spent six years at Tesco, where he was responsible for the development of the retailer's online platform and the implementation of new technologies such as mobile payments and augmented reality.
Commenting on his appointment, Dekkers said: "I am excited to be joining New Look at such a pivotal time in its digital journey. The retail industry is undergoing significant change, and I look forward to working with the team to drive innovation and deliver a seamless customer experience across all channels."
New Look has been investing heavily in its digital capabilities in recent years, as it seeks to compete with online-only retailers such as ASOS and Boohoo. The company has launched a number of initiatives to enhance its online offering, including the introduction of a virtual changing room and the use of artificial intelligence to personalise the shopping experience.
The appointment of Dekkers is the latest move in New Look's digital transformation journey. The company has also recently hired a new Chief Marketing Officer, and has been working to streamline its supply chain and improve its product range.
According to a recent report by eMarketer, UK ecommerce sales are set to reach £96.17 billion ($126.26 billion) in 2021, up 11.3% from 2020. The report also predicts that mobile commerce will account for 71.7% of all ecommerce sales in the UK this year.
