Online fashion retailer Asos has appointed Natasja Laheij, former CFO of Amazon Fashion Europe, and Jose Manuel Martinéz Gutiérrez, a veteran of the retail and fashion industry, as independent non-executive directors. The appointments come as the company prepares to transition Patrick Kennedy, who has served on the board since 2013, to a new role in 2023.

Jørgen Lindemann, chairman of Asos, said of the new appointments: “Natasja brings a wealth of highly relevant commercial and financial experience gained across several leading tech and growth businesses, including as CFO of Amazon Fashion Europe. Jose Manuel joins with extensive fashion and supply chain expertise. The board will greatly benefit from Natasja and Jose’s insight and oversight, and we look forward to working closely with them.”

Laheij currently holds the position of senior finance director for Google EMEA, and chairs the board of Google Payments. She has over 25 years of experience in the industry, holding senior positions at Deloitte Australia, Sony Ericsson and Apple. Martinéz Gutiérrez has more than 30 years of experience in the retail and fashion industry, having held senior positions at Zara’s parent company Inditex.

The new recruits will join the board on 11 April, with Laheij serving as chair of the audit committee and as a member of the remuneration and Jose Manuel serving on the audit committee. Mai Fyfield, who joined the board in November 2019, will succeed Patrick Kennedy as senior independent director of the company.

Lindemann added: “I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Patrick for the important contribution he has made to Asos, in particular his contribution to Asos’ move to the Main Market and his support during a period of management and board transition. We wish him well for the future.”
